TRACK & FIELD
A busy weekend again saw Shettleston athletes compete on all surfaces and throughout the UK. The English championships attracted 4 of our young athletes competing in a number of events which was a great experience for them. Katie Woods fresh from her Scottish Schools international appearance in Wales last weekend was off in travels again to Birmingham competing in the 1500S/C finishing 9th in a time of 5.34.57 in a high quality final. Annie McLean and Ava Millican both competed over 300m. Annie qualified for the semi -final and just missed out on the final Heat time 40.85 -Semi 40.65. Ava was competing for the first time at these championships and placed 6th in her heat with a time of 42.64. Jonathan Hopper ran 11.12 to qualify for the semi but due to a slight problem with his calf and he pulled out.

It was great to see Tsegezab Woldemichael come to the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham to see the young athletes and catch up with Club president ,Elaine MacKay. Tsegezab is a HLM of the club winning numerous national titles and helping the club many team titles during his time in Glasgow. He currently lives in Birmingham but keeps close tabs on the club.

Further South Godwin Imante made the trip to Langholm to compete in the local Games. This is a great learning experience for this young athlete. He finished 3rd in the 90m behind seasoned seniors Allan Hamilton and Ethan Pottie on a difficult Grass track slipping at the start. Then he was off to the Handicap 90m off 1m and made the final -The only backmarker to do it where he finished 4th.Four hard races .
His club mate Taha Ghafari was also trying a true Scottish traditional race at the Red Hose Race at Carnwath. The first local receives a pair of red socks but in previous years it was open to all and Allan Scally won these in the late 1920’s.Taha never got the socks but pick up first prize in the open race.
National League Aberdeen – Thank you to our three officials who travelled to Aberdeen to officiate – John Coyle, Elaine Mackay (who had a busy weekend supporting our athletes in Birmingham Fri/Sat) and John Mackay.
