During this time the club dominant the cross country and road scene in Scotland and further afield. David list of performance and team medals is quite impressive with club. In the early 70’s David was a Police Officer and this would have restricted his ability to compete for the club as they would have had first claim on him. A change of career in the mid 70’s saw David moving to Cupar (Fife) and joining Fife AC and again contributing to Fife AC ,winning a District team medal in the East in 1979. Ron Morrison who was Cross Country Captain for Shettleston was already in Fife as Professor of Computing at St Andrews University in the mid 70’s and remembers David adding quality to Fife AC. Returning to Glasgow and growing up in the Rutherglen area his final competitive time was with Cambuslang Harriers where he won District medals again in the 80’s .David never lost his love for athletics and was a regular at many events and coached a number of athletes over the years. In recent years he had been helping with coaching in Giffnock North AC where his grand-daughter was a member and his boyhood friend ,Dudley Walker, from his Shettleston days, coached .
The club would like to extend their deepest sympathy to David’s family and his wife Eileen. Funeral details are not yet available but will be shared as we become aware of these
